Early Life and Background

Ophelia Kadie Bahn was born in the Republic of Liberia, West Africa. From an early age, her life was shaped by perseverance, strong family values, and a powerful dream of one day helping people in need. That dream, which she shared with her father, became a guiding purpose that would influence the course of her life.

Raised primarily by her grandparents, Moses Dickerner Barlea and Mary T. Barlea, Ophelia learned the values of humility, resilience, and community service. Her early education was supported by her uncle, Zahn A. Dickerner, whose contribution played an important role in her formative years.

A Journey of Opportunity and Growth

In December 1995, Ophelia’s life took a significant turn when she came under the care of Mr. Lester Foss and Julia S. Foss. Through their generosity and support, she gained access to education and life-changing opportunities that helped shape her future. She lived with them in Abidjan, Ivory Coast, before relocating with them to Liberia in 2000.

In November 2009, she immigrated to the United States, carrying with her hope for a brighter future and a lasting desire to give back. Her journey was marked by determination and faith, even through seasons of deep personal loss and hardship.

Strength Through Adversity

Despite the pain of losing her mother, Joanna D. Vakor, in 2019, and her father, John M. Dickerner, in 2021, Ophelia remained steadfast in her purpose. These losses deepened her resolve and strengthened her commitment to serving others with love, empathy, and practical support.

Her life story is one of courage and gratitude—a testimony that even through sorrow and challenge, purpose can remain alive and continue to grow.

Founding the Gorpulay Foundation

Guided by her lifelong vision, Ophelia Kadie Bahn founded the Gorpulay Foundation in 2023. The Foundation was established as an expression of her enduring commitment to uplifting the less fortunate, supporting vulnerable communities, and providing opportunities for those in need.

Under her leadership, the Foundation continues to serve children, women, families, and underserved communities through compassion, practical assistance, and hope-driven initiatives. Her work reflects the belief that every act of kindness can change lives and every effort made in service carries lasting value.
