Early Life and Background

Joseph Wongbay was born in Zor Kentorkporglay, Nimba District #3, Liberia, on June 8, 1987, to the union of Mr. Francis K. Wongbay, now late, and Mrs. Vonyee L. Wongbay. His early life was shaped by both hardship and determination, particularly after the death of his father. These experiences helped build the resilience and discipline that continue to define his life today.

From a young age, Mr. Wongbay showed a deep commitment to education. Despite the long walking distance between home and school and the many personal and family challenges he faced, he remained focused on learning and self-improvement.

Educational Journey

Joseph began his primary education at Kentorkporglay Public School in 1991. Following his father’s death, he enrolled at Goagortuo Public School from 1997 to 1998. During this period, he walked from Kentorkporglay to Goagortuo from Monday through Friday, covering a long distance in pursuit of his education.

He later attended Tokpah Wonta Elementary School in Zor Dulay from 1998 to 2003. After the fall of Ganta in 2003, he moved to Zorgowee and continued his studies at St. Peter Catholic School from 2003 to 2005, where he completed his elementary education and earned promotion to the 7th grade.

During the 2005–2006 academic year, he attended Zorgowee Elementary and Junior High School and advanced to the 8th grade. Driven by his passion for education, he later enrolled at Karnplay Karn High School in 2006, where he completed both junior and senior high school and graduated in 2010 with a high school diploma.

Mr. Wongbay continued to pursue higher education and in 2024 graduated from Nimba University in Sanniquellie with an Associate of Science Degree in Forestry. He is currently a student at United Methodist University in Monrovia, where he is studying Mass Communication with a minor in Sociology.

Professional Experience and Media Career

Joseph Wongbay has built an impressive professional background across media, education, communications, community development, and technical support services. He has worked with several media institutions and organizations in Nimba County and across Liberia, demonstrating commitment, discipline, and versatility in every role he has held.

His media career began with Radio Karn Voice of Peace in Karnplay City, where he worked from 2008 to 2009 as a newscaster, reporter, and producer. He later joined Radio Nimba in 2010, where he has continued serving up to the present as a reporter, producer, and announcer. Through hard work and dedication, he rose to the positions of Studio Coordinator and later Assistant Sales Manager.

He also worked with Truth FM Radio in Saclepea, Central Nimba, from 2017 to 2018. In addition, he served as a correspondent for several well-known media institutions, including Prime FM in Monrovia from 2012 to 2013, Spoon FM from 2019 to 2021, and Liberia’s state radio, ELBC, where he served as Upper Nimba Correspondent from 2021 to 2024.

His outstanding service in journalism and reporting earned him recognition as a disciplined, hardworking, and committed correspondent. Since 2018, he has also served as Sales Manager of Nimba Online Television, further demonstrating his experience in media operations and communication management.

Other Leadership and Service Roles

Beyond journalism and broadcasting, Mr. Wongbay has served in a range of leadership and community service roles. From 2018 to 2019, he worked as a classroom teacher at Karnplay Catholic Community School. From 2014 to 2017, he worked as a Senior Soil Lab Assistant in CSE’s soil laboratory for the pavement of the Ganta to Sanniquellie road project.

He also served as Communications Officer for the Zor Development Association from 2018 to 2024, Team Manager of Zor United Football Club from 2021 to 2024, and County Coordinator for Gwan’s Foundation from 2016 to 2024. From 2019 to 2024, he was the Executive Director of Transparency Reliance to Unify Equal Life (TRUE LIFE).

Since 2015, he has served as Manager of the United Voice of Zion, and from 2026 to the present, he has also served as Secretary General of Nimba Football Academy. These roles reflect his broad leadership capacity and his dedication to community engagement, youth empowerment, and organizational development.

Family Life

Joseph Wongbay is legally married to his wife, Mrs. Lovetee T. Wongbay, and together they are blessed with two sons: Tozay Joseph Wongbay and J. Morris Wongbay. He values family deeply and continues to balance his educational pursuits, professional responsibilities, and service to society with devotion to his home.
